Commercial Work

I have worked as a commercial zooarchaeologist since 1997. I provide a friendly and informed service producing prompt, professional reports tailored to your requirements, carried out in line with guidelines from Historic England and the CIfA.

I work closely with professional units on assemblages of all sizes, from mesolithic to modern periods, complex urban settlements to single features and everything in between. Although I mostly work on material from the UK, I have experience on projects in Ireland, Asia, Africa, Western and Eastern Europe.

I produce summary or interim reports, assessments, grey literature, publication and more in-depth research reports as required.

My clients range from national commercial units to smaller independant archaeologists and private individuals. References and a CV are available on request.

I generally work from my own premises as this is more convenient for access to comparative material, but I have worked in house at museums, units and institutions and on location when required.

My services range from employment as a unit’s sole animal bone specialist, to the provision of cover when an in-house specialist is on leave or needs help to clear a backlog. Alternatively, I have been used by institutions for one off projects over one or several seasons.

Services provided include:
Assessment and evaluation reports
Site reports
Research and higher specification reports
Synthetic multi-site reports
Reports and catalogues tailored to meet specific requirements
Advice given on sampling and recovery of bones in the field
Presentations of findings in person if required
Training and teaching
Compilation of comparative collections
